Why OPay Launched ₦1.2bn Scholarship Program at UNILORIN: OPay, a leading financial institution in Nigeria, has unveiled its ₦1.2 billion scholarship initiative at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), reinforcing its dedication to empowering future Nigerian leaders.

With this expansion, UNILORIN joins the ranks of institutions benefiting from this extensive 10-year program designed to alleviate financial burdens for talented students. The scholarship not only eases tuition and living costs but also highlights OPay’s commitment to fostering talent and promoting socio-economic growth through education.

Dauda Gotring, OPay’s managing director, described the scholarship as a crucial investment in Nigeria’s future. “This ₦1.2 billion program is about more than just supporting current students; it’s about nurturing the minds that will drive the nation’s progress for years to come,” he stated.

The initiative was formally launched with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at UNILORIN. Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, the university’s vice chancellor, expressed gratitude for OPay’s impactful support. “We appreciate OPay for this timely initiative that aligns with our educational goals,” he said.

Having already reached multiple tertiary institutions nationwide, OPay’s scholarship program exemplifies its evolving role beyond digital finance, positioning the company as a key player in educational empowerment and youth development.

As the initiative grows, OPay remains committed to building a brighter and more inclusive future—one student at a time.
